ORANGE LOVE STORY is a rural drama of real people living variations of their own lives for the camera. The younger generation flees to the city to find a future while their parents and older characters stay in the country to escape materialism.
'A single hippy mother tries to protect her ambitious young daughter, a boy longs for the love of a boy on the bus while his tough farmer father grieves; a man falls in love with his sick brother's lover.' Dramatic issues - including domestic violence, the conservative mores of country life, and religious conversion - are raised. Emotion leaks out slowly: what seems at the start to be naive storytelling gradually becomes more complex.
Tom Cowan's long experience as a noted cinematographer comes to the fore in the skillful ensemble shots and the expressive, heartbreaking close-ups.
Orange Love Story is a sweet movie, deceptively simple with a heart that audiences find moving.
